FMGE or NEXT which Exam will be conducted by NBE in June'17 ?

Medical Council of India Screening Test, is a licensure examination conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) in India. The test is one of the mandatory requirements for an Indian citizen who has a medical degree from a college outside India to practice medicine in the country. The screening test was introduced in 2002 as a qualifying examination for Indian students obtaining their medical degrees from countries other than India. Lately, a lot of news has been airing about a Draft Bill being proposed that will result in NBE conducting a common exam (NEXT) for MBBS Candidates in India as well as for Foreign Medical Graduates. If this Draft bill is passed in the Parliament, NEXT will substitute 3 tests

Dr P Shingare, Head of State Department of Medical Education & Research stated that NEXT is a good move. He added that Students from different universities (India and abroad) cannot be equated in terms of their medical competence and NEXT will bring about standardization in this direction. There will be no negative impact on foreign medical graduates if the exit exam is introduced. There will be no change for the licensing requirements. Currently, Foreign Medical Graduates write the FMGE screening test, which will continue till the Bill is passed. The FMG Exam will be conducted by the NBE in June'17 as usual. Any new notification regarding the Exam will be updated. If NEXT is introduced, it will in all likelihood bring about parity between the Indian and foreign medical graduates. But it will only be conducted once a year unlike FMGE which is conducted twice a year. For more information on FMGE stay tuned!
