FMGE July 2023 Exam Analysis

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) conducted the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) on July 30th, 2023. Thousands of FMGs keen to obtain a license for practising Medicine in India participated in the exam.

FMGE July 2023 Exam Analysis

To understand and obtain first-hand experience of the FMGE July 2023 exam, we shared a questionnaire with the doctors asking them to share their views about the exam. And this is what they had to say. 

The Overall Difficulty of the Exam

62.3% of candidates found the exam to be Moderate.

37.7% felt the exam was difficult. 

General Pattern of the Questions

As per the survey and exam analysis:

35.2% of questions were clinical.

55.6% were concepts based. 

And 9.3% were One-Liners. 

What did the candidates say about the questions?

35.2% of candidates found questions difficult

Whereas 63% found questions to be moderate

Which subjects had high weightage?

As per the survey, the subjects that had high marks weightage are-

• OBG
• Surgery
• Medicine
• PSM
• Pharmacology
• Paediatrics
• Biochemistry
• ENT

Number of Questions Attempted by the Candidates

As per the survey, most students (96.4%) attempted 150-200 questions.

Time Allotted

Time management plays an essential role while writing any competitive exam. We asked the FMGE aspirants if the allotted time to complete the test was enough! 

And we got this in our answer. 75% of the students stated that the time given was sufficient and that they could finish the test in the stipulated time. 

Whereas 25% of the students felt that the time allotted was insufficient to complete the test. 

Difficulty Level of the Questions

The survey revealed that 33.9 % of the candidates found the clinical scenarios difficult. 

46.4% of the candidates felt that the questions were easy but had confusing options to choose the answer from. 

19.6% of the candidates said they encountered one-liner questions they had never heard before.
