As the dates of the UPSC CSE Mains exam come near, it is essential that you use this time effectively.
To help you with that, we have given below a 30 days revision plan that will help you make the best of your preparation and ace the Mains 2022 exam.
Let us have a look at the 30 days revision plan. You must follow this plan consistently and with full dedication to streamline your final revision and easily sail through your Mains preparation.
Let’s begin.
This is not the time to explore new material or resources. The best strategy for you is to stick to your existing resources at this stage of your preparation.
If you want to, you will always find new information that might look important from exam point of view. There is an abundance of information on the internet and in the news. Reading something new will only confuse you and drive away focus from what you already know.
Moreover, most of the information you will find is repetitive, with only minor tweaks or additions that will not affect your preparation.
You have consistently followed a preparation strategy all these months, which has helped you clear Prelims. Relying on a different medium will only complicate the entire process, and it is best to avoid it. Therefore, stick to your current resources and believe in your preparation.
Current Affairs is one of the crucial ingredients parts of the UPSC CSE Prelims and Mains exam. One of the best tips we can give you is to align your Current Affairs knowledge with the topics in your static syllabus.
While UPSC mostly asks questions from the static syllabus, its questions have elements of Current Affairs embedded within them. This is why it is paramount that you align your answers with relevant current events along with the concepts and theories.
If you have self-prepared notes from your regular newspaper readings, now is the time to go through them.
If you have not, get access to a well-curated and regularly updated Current Affairs magazine., such as PrepMagazine, available on the PrepLadder App.
If you have subscribed to a current affairs magazine, go through the past issues and revise them.
Note-making is critical to your success. If you want to know more about how exactly it helps in your preparation, read this article on “Importance of Note-Making in UPSC Preparation” for all the details.
If you need more information on how to maximize your Current Affairs preparation for UPSC CSE Mains, check out this video on “How to Deal With Current Affairs” by PrepLadder’s Men in Black, Himanshu Sharma, and Atul Garg. This video will answer all your questions on current affairs.
The static subject portion of the UPSC CSE exam syllabus is the only predictable portion. However, that does not make it any easier to prepare for and still requires a well-thought-out approach for thorough preparation.
You will need a daily, weekly, and month-end revision plan for the static syllabus portion. This will help you cover the basic syllabus within 30 days and be well prepared for the upcoming UPSC Mains 2022 exam.
Here is a two-step approach to make your static syllabus preparation more effective. Follow the steps given below to make your preparation more productive.
Step 1 - In the first 25-30 days, try to complete your revision of all the subjects. Give yourself sufficient time to go through the subjects. However, do not take too long. Revision at this stage should be comprehensive but also within the time limit.
Remember, you also have to prepare and give adequate time to practicing previous year questions (PYQs) and attempting mock tests.
Step 2 - In the final 10-15 days, it is time to do a second revision. However, this time around, we will move faster. In this last lap of your revision plan, go through the entire syllabus again, but only the essential points.
If you have any notes prepared where you have jotted down all the important information, go through them. Avoid reading anything else.
Remember this, studying without practice is almost the same as not studying at all! UPSC CSE Mains exam will assess your writing skills, and this is the time to focus on making sure every answer you write has a well-structured Introduction, Body, and Conclusion.
In the UPSC Mains exam, you will have only around 8 minutes for every question you attempt. Also, when it is the real exam, you will undoubtedly be under a lot of pressure.
Therefore, you must practice hard to write a neat, crisp, and lucid answer within those 8 minutes so that you don’t have to overthink on the day of the exam.
We strongly recommend attempting PYQs and exam-pattern-based Mock Tests as much as possible. This will elevate your answer writing skills and your on-spot thinking skills.
In addition, it will help you understand the exam pattern in-depth and, most importantly, boost your confidence when you sit for the exam.
In the race to complete the syllabus and ace the UPSC Mains exam, candidates often make the mistake of ignoring or side-lining the compulsory papers of English Language Paper and the Indian Language Paper as they are only qualifying in nature.
It is true you are not required to spend a lot of time preparing for these papers. However, you still need to dedicate adequate time to clear them. Your preparation strategy will fail unless you are confident about cracking these papers.
In the final score, every mark counts, and even a single mark can make a huge difference. In order to achieve your IAS dreams, leave no subject unprepared.
Preparing for these papers is not hard if you approach them in the right way. You can also read a detailed blog on How to Prepare for Compulsory Indian Language Paper for UPSC Mains.
So there you go. This is the 30 days revision plan you must follow to ace your UPSC CSE Mains exam preparation.
Understand that rigorous writing practice is essential to ace your USPC CSE Mains preparation. Only when you learn to write high-quality answers will you be able to impress the interviewer.
And to achieve that level of excellence in answer writing, you need to attempt QBanks and Mock Tests every day during the final days of your UPSC CSE Mains revision.
