India promotes pharma-medical devices sector

India is in the final stage of introducing national policy to promote R&D in pharma-medical devices sectors. 

This was a statement said by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Further, he spoke about the future of healthcare that is centered around value-based leadership model rather than a volume-based approach. 

Hyderabad battles respiratory illness

The city has been hit by a number of viruses mimicking the common cold such as swine flu, H3N2, Victoria group and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). 

While the COVID-19 vierus is on the wane for now, Hyderabad has been hit by a host of other respiratory diseases at the moment. H3N2 infections account for 50% of all the respiratory infections. 

WHO: Polio still remains a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC)

This statement came after the increased risk of spread of Wild Poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Africa. 

The ongoing transmission in eastern Afghanistan with cross-border spread into Pakistan marks one of the reasons for the spread into Pakistan. 

The WHO committee has recommended that all residetnts and long-term visitors of all ages receive a dose of bivalent oral poliovirus vaccine or inactivated poliovirus vaccine between four weeks and 12 months before embarking on international travel. 

Gujarat detects ‘Eris’ variant of coronavirus

The EG.5 strain of the coronavirus has made its entry into Gujarat with 2 cases detected in Ahmedabad and Vadodara. 

The EG.5 strain of the coronavirus which is suspected to be behind the surge in Covid cases across countries, including the US and UK, has now emerged in Gujarat according to the Gujarat Biological Research Centre (GBRC). 

International reports highlight symptoms associated with the Eris variant which are like flu symptoms including cough, high fever, body ache, headache, weakness, fatigue and runny nose.
