For the first time ever, a rare ankle surgery was performed in Kerala. The VPS Lakeshore Hospital, in association with the Indian Foot and Ankle Society (IFAS) on Saturday, successfully performed a live surgical workshop. The workshop was performed on the Osteochondral Lesion of the ankle joint.
The surgical procedure was performed by Professor Niek. He is currently working at the FIFA Medical Centers of Excellence in Madrid. The patient on whom the surgery was performed was a 28-year-old native of Kochi.
Researchers from the team of Special Centre for Molecular Medicine have found a new compound that showed potent transmission-blocking activity.
They achieved this feat by identifying a novel cold shock protein of Plasmodium falciparum. This protein plays an important role in the sexual and asexual development of malaria parasites. The study was published in the iScience journal.
Scientists have proposed that targeting this essential protein called Plasmodium cold shock protein can block the growth and transmission of malaria parasites.
A case study of a 28-year-old woman named Annie produced some interesting results. The reports indicate that COVID-19 can result in patients suffering from severe and selective neuropsychological impairment-like deficits following brain damage.
Further, it appears that high levels of visual impairments are in people with long COVID, where several symptoms resurface.
A schoolboy in the UK named Jake Bond lost one of his legs in a battle against Step A bacteria. He caught the infection in December 2022.
His initial symptoms were vomiting and a high fever, after which he was sent home. Step A or group A Streptococcus is a notorious group of bacteria known for causing several types of infections and minor diseases, including strep throat, scarlet fever, cellulitis and others.
