Despite Government of India’s permission to grant state quota for 25 DNB seats in Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, all the seats have been allocated through All-India Quota, leaving no seats for Chandigarh-based medicos.
The information came to light following an RTI application filed by a PG aspirant asking why there were no state quota seats for DNB despite other states allocating 50% seats for state quota.
A research team at IMBA and the UBC revealed that the mutations affecting PCYT2, or its reduced activity, are conserved hallmarks of muscle degeneration across vertebrates. And its deficiency in muscles affects mitochondrial function and the physicochemical properties of the myofiber membrane.
The research was carried out by the scientists at the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and their findings were published in the Nature Metabolism journal.
Dr Amar Agarwal, chairman of Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospitals said that the Retinal diseases which are the major cause of preventable blindness, gets lower priority in blindness prevention than cataracts. However, they can easily be managed if diagnosed on time.

A total of 76 samples of COVID-19's XBB.1.16 variant have been found which might be the reason behind the recent rise of cases in the country.
The XBB 1.16 variant was first found in January when two samples tested positive for the variant. In February next month, 59 more samples were found.
