Types of Students Based on Their Preparation Status

• Alpha: These are students who have attended all the classes or have covered more than 90% syllabus and revised once or more.
• Beta: Students who have covered a significant part of the syllabus but are still left with 3 to 4 subjects.
• Gamma: This is the most important category of students as it consists of students who either have covered 3 to 4 subjects or just started their preparation or are planning to start.

Preparation Phases

Phase 1- 60 Days

Phase 2- 28 Days

Phase 3- 12 Days

Preparation Strategy for Alpha Category Students in Phase 1 (60 Days)

Alpha category students are those who have already covered more than 90% syllabus and even revised it once or twice. Nevertheless, they should follow the below-mentioned tips to stay ahead in the exam game:

• Start your day with a tough subject, so that it gives an extra edge to you, the alpha category student who is already familiar with the easy ones.
• Solve Maths and Aptitude questions alongside the core subjects in intervals so that the practice itself would act as a refreshment.
• Most importantly, solve 8 to 10 year GATE previous year question papers.
• Allot only 6 to 7 days for an easy subject and 10 to 12 days for tough subject.
• Attend subject tests and chapter tests analyse your performance and you should be able to discover the areas in which you need further background work. These are the areas from which you’re not able to solve questions from.
• To improvise in these areas, go through that specific topic from a standard textbook or a video lecture and practice solved examples from that area.
• Analyze mistakes and frequently forgotten formulas and write them down in short notes.
• Repeat the same with easy subjects replaced by tough subjects and moderately scoring subjects.
• If the time left is less, it’s better to approach the 4th category subjects through reverse engineering i.e. learn concepts quickly through GATE previous year questions
• The entire process shouldn’t exceed 55 days

PHASE 2- 28 Days

In your Phase 2 preparation, you should focus on the following points:

• Revise the short notes multiple times and take a number of full subjects alongside mock tests.
• Analyze and improve from the tests within 25 days

Preparation Strategy for Beta Category Students in Phase I (60 Days)

Many students come under this category, such as job going students who are left with 3-5 subjects. They should follow the below-mentioned pointers for preparing effectively:

• Cover the subjects that are left comprehensively.
• Solve 8 to 10-year GATE previous year question papers.
• At this phase of preparation, they can join the Alpha club.
• Attend Subject Tests and Chapter Tests.
• Analyze mistakes and frequently forgotten formulas and write them down in short notes.
• The tough subjects may be left, or only selected areas are focused on.
• Learn concepts through questions to save time.
• The entire process should not exceed 55 days.
• If completed the above a little early then a quick revision would be a good step.

PHASE II- 28 Days

In your Phase 2 preparation, you should focus on the following points:

• Revise the short notes multiple times and take a number of full-length tests.
• Analyze and improve from the tests within a span of 25 days.
• Amend short notes wherever necessary.

Preparation Strategy for Gamma Category Students in Phase I (60 Days)

Students who fall under this category include those who have just a little knowledge of Network Theory, Control Theory acquired during their B.Tech or students who have just started their GATE preparation.

For Gamma category students, it is mandatory to follow the below-mentioned tips to ace the GATE EE exam:

• Use concepts through the question approach to save time.
• Solve 8 to 10-year GATE previous year question papers.
• Solve Maths and Aptitude questions alongside the core subjects.
• Attend Subject Tests and Chapter Tests.
• Analyze mistakes and frequently forgotten formulas and write them down in short notes.

PHASE II- 28 Days

• Revise multiple times and take a number of full-length tests.
• Analyze and improve from the tests within 20 days.

Preparation Strategy in Phase III- 12 Days (Common for all Category Students)

Once you are done preparing the entire syllabus, it’s time to give a Final Touch!

The final phase of the EE preparation strategy is common for every student and should be executed properly. You should follow the below-mentioned pointers for the same:

• Take care of your health (Mental & Physical)
• Attempt at least 3-4 Mock Tests in the first 8 days to give a reality check to your preparation.
• Solving mock tests will boost your confidence level tremendously and will help you in identifying the weak areas. Needless to say, they will help you in time management as well.  
• A very important point to note at this stage is that many students lower their motivation levels if they score less in mock tests, but the point is what are you getting out of doing so?
